Emile French Faisselle

A beautifully primitive piece of French farmhouse history, this antique stoneware faisselle was traditionally used in cheesemaking, its pierced sides allowing the whey to drain as fresh cheese was formed. This particular piece is especially charming with its petite pedestal base, wonderfully irregular form, and deep, earthy brown glaze worn away in places to reveal the warm clay beneath.

The imperfections and layers of patina are exactly what make this one so special. Style it simply on an old farmhouse table, tuck it among a collection of French pottery, or use it to hold a candle for a warm autumn glow. A soulful little piece that feels as though it came straight from an old French country kitchen.
